The National Guard of Ukraine became a full member of the International Association of the Gendarmeries and Police Forces with Military Status FIEP

On October 16, during the FIEP Summit in the city of Amman (Jordan), the National Guard of Ukraine became a new full member of the Association. Summit participants voted unanimously for this decision.

NGU Deputy Commander, Lt. Gen. Mykola Balan presented the National Guard of Ukraine at the Summit.

«Today National Guard of Ukraine has achieved one of its strategic goals, from the vast array of goals that National Guard of Ukraine has set since the very moment of its creation. This event is a powerful impetus and clear signal to continue implementation of reforms and work on adaptation of the national policies and legislation in conformity with the best practices of the leading European countries.»,- said Lt. Gen. Mykola Balan

According to the words of Mykola Balan, this status is an absolute recognition of the National Guard of Ukraine as an equal law-enforcement formation among similar institutions not only of Europe but of the entire world. Admission of the National Guard of Ukraine to the International family of Law-enforcement institutions with military status will become an important milestone not only for the National Guard of Ukraine, but also for the Association itself.

«We already have an experience of participation in hybrid war. And this is an experience in performing the tasks of ensuring the internal security of the state, while also protecting the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine from an external aggressor, preventing the realization of our neighbor's imperial ambitions.», - emphasized Lt. Gen. Balan

He added that each structure has experience in ensuring internal security in its own countries, and each of us faces new challenges and threats beyond our national boundaries and it is turning into a global problem of international dimensions. In view of this, the exchange of experience in safety aspect is extremely important in the agenda of international cooperation.

National Guard of Ukraine is interested in the experience of each member structure of the Association, and is ready to share its experience, both within the framework of the Association's activity and on a bilateral cooperation with the members of the Association.

In conclusion, Lt. Gen. Balan thanked all members of the FIEP for their support in providing the National Guard of Ukraine with the full member status of the Association. He believed that only by joint efforts we can push back against present challenges and threats.

During the Summit, Gendarmerie of Jordan handed over the presidency of the FIEP Association to the Gendarmerie of Turkey. The Turkish side proposed several actual topics for the next year. The participants of the Summit supported the topic: "Preventing Terrorist Attacks in Crowded Places".

It may be recalled that in 2015 National Guard of Ukraine submitted application to join FIEP Association. In March 2016 National Guard of Ukraine hosted fact-finding mission that evaluated Ukrainian law-enforcement agency. Later, based on the positive report of the Association, National Guard of Ukraine was granted observer status.
